The 26th annual Deary Memorial Race, Walk and Ride is one of Day Kimball Healthcare's and Northeast Connecticut's most popular events and benefits those in our local communities who are battling cancer. The race and walk covers a 5-mile course that begins and ends at J.D. Cooper's Restaurant. 6:00 a.m. - Early Bird Walk
8:00 a.m. - Fun Walk
9:05 a.m. - Road Race
9:15 a.m. - Kids' 1/2 Mile Fun Run

About the Course

• The Race/Walk starting location, J.D. Cooper's in Putnam, is conveniently located just forty minutes from Worcester, Providence, Norwich and Hartford via route 44 or I-395.
• USAT&F Certified 5-mile course
• Ample water stops & hoses throughout course
• Prizes for new course records in all categories
• T-shirts to all pre-registered participants
• 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash awards to top male and female runners

Fees
Before July 31: $20 per walk/race participant
After July 31: $30 per walk/race participant

Proceeds benefit the Deary Memorial Cancer Fund which provides screenings, treatments and services to those area residents who are in need of assistance for cancer care. Last year, DKH was able to distribute more than $200,000 in assistance thanks in part to participants of the Deary Memorial Race, Walk & Ride!

Deary Memorial Recognition Garden: Honor a Loved One

You can honor a loved one - in memory or in recognition - by purchasing a plant tag in their name at the Deary Memorial Recognition Garden, located at J.D. Cooper's Restaurant. Tags are just $5 and will be on display leading up to and on the day of the Race and Walk. For more information and to purchase a tag, download the Memorial Garden brochure and purchase form.

About the Deary Memorial Race, Walk & Ride

The Deary Memorial Road Race & Walk began in 1989, evolving into a community tradition each August. In 2009, cycling "Ride" categories were added and the event was renamed the Day Kimball Healthcare Deary Memorial Race, Walk & Ride. Over the years, the event has raised more than $1,117,000 and all the money remains local. It provides preventive services and cancer treatment such as mammograms, colonoscopies, diagnostics, medication and surgical procedures for local patients needing financial assistance in the local community. The fundraiser also supports the Tom C. Deary Jr. Scholarship awarded to students pursuing a career in radiology.

Additional fundraising activities to support the Deary Memorial Race, Walk & Ride begin prior to the event with a Spring Gala, Wine Tasting, Guest Bartender Night and Celebrity Scoops Night.

Through these events, the Northeast Connecticut community comes together throughout the summer to remember, celebrate and honor those who have battled cancer. It is through the support of many that the Day Kimball Healthcare Deary Memorial Cancer Fund is able to change lives.
