Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH

(Formerly the DKH Deary Memorial Cancer Fund. Learn more about the name change in this press release.)

The Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH provides financial assistance for cancer-related screening and treatment services to individuals living in Northeast Connecticut who otherwise may not have the financial resources to obtain needed medical attention.

Through the generous contributions of local businesses, community members, and various events, more than $1.2 million has been raised for the Fund since its inception in 1989 - all of it staying local, exclusively to help residents of northeast Connecticut.

Assistance may be used to help pay for Day Kimball Healthcare cancer services including mammography, prostate cancer screening, diagnostic imaging and lab services, chemotherapy, surgical procedures and medications.

Eligibility

To be eligible for assistance through the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH, a patient must:

  • reside in one of these northeast Connecticut towns: Ashford, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Danielson, Dayville, Eastford, Hampton, Killingly, Moosup, Plainfield, Pomfret, Putnam, Sterling, Thompson or Woodstock
  • be receiving, or have the need to receive, medical services either related to a cancer diagnosis or for any cancer screening services
  • have a primary care physician with privileges at Day Kimball Hospital
  • have the need for the service, as determined by the patient’s physician

Assistance Guidelines

Each eligible patient may receive assistance according to the guidelines below:

If the patient HAS health insurance, he or she may receive up to $500 in assistance per billed service, up to a maximum of $2,000 of total assistance per year.

If the patient does NOT have health insurance, he or she may receive assistance to cover each billed service in full, up to a maximum of $5,000 in total assistance per year.
