Alcoholics Anonymous: Saturdays and Sundays; 10:00 a.m.; Day Kimball Hospital.

Alzheimer's & Dementia Caregiver Support Group: This free support group for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia is held on the second Thursday of each month from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Center, 15 Marshall Street, Putnam. Alzheimer's & Dementia Family Training Seminars: Free classes for individuals caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease & other related dementias. A series of four classes are held one each month from March through June and again from September through December. Each class focuses on a different topic, from an introduction to understanding Alzheimer’s and dementia, to community resources and legal and financial planning. Alzheimer’s & Dementia Memory Care Activity Program: This program provides stimulation and socialization to individuals with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, as well as respite time for their caregivers. Learn more at our Memory Care Activity Program page >

Asthma Clinic: Meets the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Day Kimball Medical Group pulmonary medicine office, 346 Pomfret St., Putnam. Free evaluation, testing, management and education of asthma for people at least 15 years old without regular access to healthcare, uninsured or under insured. For info call (860) 928-4344.

Bereavement Support Group for Adults: Meets on select Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. at Day Kimball Hospital in the Field Conference Rooms. Registration is required; to register and for more information, please call Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut at (860) 928-0422 ext. 213. Bereavement Support Group for Children & Teens - "Good Grief Group": The Good Grief Group is for children and teens, ages 5-16, who have suffered a loss through death. The goal of the group is to let children know that they are not alone in their grief, that it is alright if they feel sad and cry and how to deal with their grief and emotions in healing ways. Hosted by two trained facilitators. Multi-week sessions are held periodically throughout the year. Breast Cancer Support Group: Meets the third Tuesday of each month from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Day Kimball Hospital. Women with breast cancer or who have survived breast cancer are invited to join together for support and advice at this free monthly support group. No registration is required, drop-ins are welcome. Breastfeeding Support Group: Meets the first Monday of each month from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Day Kimball Healthcare’s Family Advocacy Center/WIC Office, 255 Pomfret Street, Putnam. For more information call (860) 963-6599 and press 1 for ext. 7103.

Cancer Care Wellness Support Group  Held the second Monday of each month, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., at Day Kimball Hospital, 320 Pomfret Street Putnam. This general cancer support group is facilitated by DKH’s oncology social worker. Patients, families, caregivers, survivors and anyone affected by cancer is invited to share in their experiences. Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Classes: Free educational program to help people with heart disease maintain and improve their health. Held Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. For more information call (860) 963-6315.

Childbirth Classes: Prepare for the birth of your baby by learning what to expect, how to prepare, methods for coping with pain and more. Developed by a team of nurses in consultation with area obstetricians and pediatricians. Choose from the 4-week series with 2-hour evening classes, or a one-day, 8-hour Saturday class. Cost is $60 and pre-registration is required. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Skills Group: Presented by the Behavioral Health Center at DKH, this sixteen week group is skills-focused and designed for boys and girls ages 13-17 in need of developing specific skills to reduce intense “hot” emotions and confusion in their lives so that they can feel happier, live healthier, and be more successful. This is an evidence-based clinical intervention for adolescents who struggle with extreme emotional reactivity, unstable self-concept and relationships, mood disorder, and self-injurious behaviors. Healthy Start/Husky Program: This healthcare program for pregnant women and children up to 19 years of age provides insurance for prenatal care for pregnant women and complete medical coverage for children. Parents or guardians may qualify for free medical assistance if financial qualifications are met. Case management services are also available. Look Good, Feel Better: This free workshop helps women fighting cancer to manage the appearance related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. A specially trained, certified cosmetologist will provide makeup, hair, skin and nail-care tips and advice. Participants also receive a free makeup and skincare toolkit and a head covering (if desired). Presented in collaboration with the American Cancer Society periodically throughout the year. Mammograms and Pap Tests: Today, most health insurance plans cover the full cost of screening mammograms and pap smears. However, if you do not have insurance or your plan does not cover the full cost and you need financial assistance in accessing these screening tests, call (860) 456-6896 regarding eligibility for the CT Breast and Cervical Cancer Grant. If ineligible for this grant, contact a financial counselor at Day Kimball Hospital regarding eligibility for a free mammogram certificate through the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH at (860) 928-6541 x3316 or x2219.

Nurturing Families Network: Provides free parenting classes and family support services to pregnant and new parents as well as anyone parenting a child from birth through elementary school-age. For more information visit our Nurturing Families Network page.

Overeaters Anonymous: Every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Day Kimball Hospital, Fields Conference Room 1. For more information, please call (508) 949-0819 or (860) 796-0114.

Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster(TM): Learn mind-body techniques to feel calmer before surgery, use less pain medication and heal faster. Developed by Peggy Huddleston. For info call Robin Thompson at (860) 928-6541 x2095.

Relay For Life of Eastern Connecticut (Plainfield): Held each June at the Plainfield Town Hall. Visit the American Cancer Society website for event information.

Sleep Apnea Group - A.W.A.K.E. (Alert, Well & Keeping Energetic): Meets the second Thursday of each month except January, February, July and August, at Day Kimball Hospital in the Field Conference Rooms. Moderated by a sleep technologist, the program is for patients, family members and friends who are affected by sleep apnea. Learn more about sleep apnea and using CPAP equipment, and share experiences and helpful hints with other support group members.

Women, Infant & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program: WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, offered by the CT Department of Public Health and administered locally throughout Northeast Connecticut by Day Kimball Healthcare. WIC provides nutrition and breastfeeding education and assistance to women prenatally and up to one year after giving birth, and nutrition assistance to children up to age five.
