Gastroenterology deals with the function, diseases and disorders of the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, gall bladder, bile ducts, liver, small intestine, colon (or large intestine), and rectum.
Physician Consultations
Consults for advanced treatment of digestive and liver disorders are available through our associated board certified gastroenterologists from Connecticut GI. A referral from your primary care practitioner (PCP) is required. Ask your PCP for information about the Connecticut GI office closest to you.
Endoscopic Services
With our state-of-the-art Doris E. Madeira Endoscopy Suite at Day Kimball Hospital and the services of our associated gastroenterologists from Connecticut GI, we are able to offer comprehensive screening, diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of gastroenterology diseases and conditions, including:
- colonoscopy
- endoscopic biopsies
- small bowel capsule endoscopy
- gastroscopy
- sigmoidoscopy
- ulcer treatment procedures
- upper endoscopy

Surgical Care
Our Day Kimball Medical Group general surgeons provide expert emergency and non-emergent surgical care, including removal of the gallbladder or appendix, colectomy, colon re-anastomosis, small bowel obstruction repair and hemorrhoidectomy. Our surgeons are available 24/7 for emergency surgeries. Non-emergent procedures require a referral and may be scheduled through your PCP or general surgeon’s office.

Billing and Payment Information
Billing for physician consultations will be submitted to your insurance directly by Connecticut GI.
Billing for endoscopic and surgical procedures will be submitted to your insurance carrier by more than one party; the physician’s practice for surgical services, Day Kimball Hospital for facility services and Sheridan Health Corporation for anesthesiology services, when applicable.
