KIS Students Raise $1,500 for Deary Memorial Cancer Fund
May 11, 2015
Members of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) at Killingly Intermediate School presented a $1,500 donation for the Day Kimball Healthcare Deary Memorial Cancer Fund to Gene Michael Deary during their student induction ceremony in April.
The funds were raised during the school's "Think Pink" week last October, when NJHS members, led by advisory and KIS teacher Mona Gardner, organized flower and t-shirt sales, face painting and other activities at the school to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer detection and treatment.
This is not the first time that NJHS members at KIS have raised money for the Deary Fund; the Think Pink week has become an annual event for the group, and a successful one at that.
"We're so thankful to and proud of the National Junior Honor Society members and all the students at Killingly Intermediate School for their thoughtfulness and hard work in supporting such an important cause in our community," said Pamela Watts, Director of Development at Day Kimball Healthcare.
