One Year Later, DKH Family Advocacy Center's New Location Providing Continued Benefits for Local Families
December 15, 2015
Authored by Christine Collins, Director, DKH Family Advocacy Programs
It has now been one year since the DKH Family Advocacy Programs - WIC, Nurturing Families, Healthy Start and Wendy’s Place - were able to come together in one space to more effectively serve the children and families of our community. Since then, the new Family Advocacy Center, located at 255 Pomfret Street in Putnam, has allowed for further improved relationships with community partners who work to provide needed items and services for our families, including:
- Diapers - we worked with IHSP-Diaper Diaper Bank of NECT to assist with distribution of diapers to those in need in our area.
- Clothing, Backpacks and Household Necessities - using a grant, the Putnam Lodge of Elks donated new clothes, household items, backpacks and many other items
- Furniture Safety Brackets - the Safe and Sound with Amaya Foundation (founded in memory of a local child who was tragically lost due to a tipped televsion) provided tip resistant furniture safety brackets at no cost for distribution at the Center
- “Period of Purple Crying” Education - the CT Office of Early Childhood provides free Period of Purple Crying DVD’s for distribution at our Center, as well as at the Burdick Family Birthing Center at Day Kimball Hospital
- Parenting Education - special thanks to Putnam and Plainfield Family Resource Centers who hosted our Circle of Security parenting education groups and provided space, food and assistance with child care.
Together, we are helping to create happier, healthier homes for our children and families in Northeast Connecticut. Everyone at the DKH Family Advocacy Center would like to thank all in our community who made our new space and this year's program successes possible. May our collective efforts enjoy many more years of continued growth and success!
