This multi-phase outpatient program provides education and safe, supervised exercise for individuals with chronic lung disease such as emphysema, asthma and chronic bronchitis. The program’s specially trained registered nurses, exercise physiologists, and respiratory therapists help patients live as active and normal a life as possible through guided exercise, education and support.
The first phase of the program provides exercise sessions and educational classes two days per week for 12 weeks. At each session the patient’s heart rate, pulse oximetry and blood pressure is monitored, and lung assessments are conducted. Education on coping with lung disease is provided as well. This phase is covered by most insurance companies.
The second phase is a maintenance phase for those patients who have completed phase one and wish to continue to exercise under the supervision of the pulmonary rehabilitation staff. As this is not covered by most health insurance plans, it is a self-pay phase, billed directly to the patient at a cost of $46.15 per month.
Your First Appointment
A referral from a primary care physician or cardiologist is required to enter the program. Your first visit consists of an interview and thorough assessment of your medical history. You will be asked to fill out informational forms to help us plan for your educational needs. There will be a brief exercise session to establish your exercise prescription.
