Sleep medicine specialists diagnose and treat sleep-related breathing disorders such as sleep apnea as well as other disorders such as restless leg syndrome (RLS), abnormal REM behaviors, parasomnias, nocturnal seizure disorder, narcolepsy, sleep/wake disturbances, shift work disorders and jet lag disorders.

Our board certified sleep medicine specialists provide comprehensive assessments and treatment for adults and children (ages two and up) at our Sleep Disorder Center at Day Kimball Hospital. In-home sleep studies can be arranged as well for those patients that require a home study.

Sleep Disorder Center

Our Sleep Disorder Center at Day Kimball Hospital is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and is fully equipped to provide comprehensive sleep assessments for children and adults.

The state-of-the-art four-room facility includes comfortable bedroom suites designed to feel like a five-star hotel. Sleep evaluations may be conducted overnight or during the day and last a minimum of six hours. A sleep technologist will apply small electrodes, respiratory belts, nasal cannula and an oximeter probe to monitor your sleep patterns and movements. Your movements will also be monitored by digital video.

A referral from your physician is required. Your evaluation will be scheduled once the referral is received and insurance is authorized by the Center. Sleep studies may be scheduled during the day, Monday through Friday, or overnight, Monday through Saturday. A report will be sent to your physician within 8 days of testing, and he or she will contact you with the results. Once a diagnosis has been made, our sleep medicine specialists will work with your physician to create a treatment plan for you.

“AWAKE In the Quiet Corner” Support Group

Moderated by a sleep technologist, the Alert, Well, And Keeping Energetic (AWAKE) program is for patients, family members and friends who are affected by sleep apnea. Guest speakers provide the latest information about CPAP and bi-level therapy while members share experiences and helpful hints. Learn more...

Specialty Care: Overview

Your sleep study is done in a comfortable bedroom suite, designed to feel like a 5 star hotel. Your suite is a climate controlled room with a queen sized bed, flat screen cable television with DVD player and full bath with shower. One bedroom suite is totally wheelchair accessible. A sleep technologist will apply small electrodes, respiratory belts, nasal cannula and an oximeter probe to monitor your sleep patterns and movements. Your movements will also be monitored by digital video equipment. Generally, you will have some time to relax, read or watch television before ‘Lights Out’.

Each sleep technologist will monitor two patients from a separate control room for a minimum of 6 hours. During this time, we can hear your requests and speak to you through an intercom system designed for sleep centers. Generally patients are awakened between 5 and 6 am so that you may shower and be ready for your day by 6:30am. Patients that need to be out earlier for work or school can be easily accommodated.

Third shift workers may opt to have studies performed during their work week. A sleep technologist is available during the day to accommodate you Monday through Friday.

Important Things to Remember

We ask that you bring any medications that you may need and something comfortable to sleep in. Please try to avoid naps, hair gels and hair sprays the day of your test. Also try to reduce your caffeine intake after 3pm for night tests and 3am for daytime studies. Report to registration 15 to 20 minutes before your appointment time so that insurance information may be updated.

Testing will be scheduled by the Sleep Disorder Center staff after receiving a requisition from your physician. If you have any special needs or requests for testing, please let us know as soon as possible so that we may make the necessary arrangements for you.

A signed report will be sent to your physician within 8 days of testing. Your physician will contact you with the results.
