The Day Kimball Breast Health Program is designed to promote and support breast health by providing exceptional mammographic services for early detection of disease and by helping patients to access further radiologic, oncologic and surgical care as needed. Our goal is to provide an efficient, comprehensive and compassionate multi-disciplinary approach to the detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
A major component of the Breast Health Program is our nurse navigator. If a suspicious mass is found, a biopsy is scheduled. Once the biopsy has been performed, the nurse navigator steps in to act as a personal care coordinator, providing the patient and patient’s family with the necessary resources and support to facilitate the next steps of care and to improve the overall experience.
The Nurse Navigator, as the name implies, navigates the patient through the healthcare system in the following ways:
- Ensures timely communication of biopsy results
- Assists with scheduling further appointments as needed
- Provides patient education, encouraging informed decision making
- Remains a support system for patients who require further treatment through our Surgical Care or Cancer Care services
