On Wednesday the United Health Foundation released its 25th annual "America's Health Rankings" report. The report ranks states from most healthy to least healthy based on analysis of key factors affecting our country's health. How did Connecticut compare?

Very well, indeed. Connecticut ranked as the nation's fourth healthiest state, up from a ranking of seventh in 2013. Way to go, Connecticut! Check out the infographic below for a snapshot of just a few of the report's highlights, then read further for more details...

The report cited a low prevalence of smoking, low occupational fatalities rate and high immunization rates for children among the state's strengths. It also highlighted an increase in physical activity among adults, and a decrease in preventable hospitalizations, diabetes and cancer deaths.

But while the health of our state in comparison to the national average is certainly something to celebrate, the report also showed several areas where Connecticut is lagging behind.

Connecticut residents reported a high rate of binge drinking, ranking the state 37th in the nation for that measure. It cited a large disparity in health status by educational attainment as another challenge for the state. And although the rate of preventable hospitalizations decreased in CT in 2014, it was still high as compared to the national average.

See the complete 2014 CT health measures report for many more facts, figures and details. And be sure to click on the "measures" tab for a breakdown of how CT fared for specific health issues, as well as actions you can take to improve those issues in your own life.
