Cora Simmons Named Employee of the Month

June 30, 2013

PUTNAM, CONN. – Cora Simmons has been named employee of the month for June at Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH). She is the lead housekeeper at Day Kimball Hospital, which is part of the DKH integrated system.

“Cora is the one and only third shift employee we have in housekeeping,” said Michael Hebert, manager of housekeeping. “If you’re lucky enough to work with her, you quickly learn she is a person of few words, but big actions.”

Simmons joined DKH in January 2004 after five years of working as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) in various nursing homes. Her responsibilities at the hospital include complete patient room cleaning based on established procedures; trash removal and recycling; and accommodating the special needs and requests of patients. Simmons also moves equipment, furniture and supplies to different hospital departments for cleaning and rearrangement purposes.

When describing how she felt about this recognition, Simmons said she was “very proud and a little nervous.” She said it is the patients she sees and the people she works with that make her love her job at DKH so much.

Simmons was born and raised in Killingly, Connecticut, where she still resides with her husband, Donald, and their two children, Melissa and Joshua. She is a licensed nurse’s aide with a Quinebaug Valley Community College certification. Simmons is also an avid bowler.
