Centenarian Resides at Seely-Brown Village in Pomfret
PUTNAM, CONNECTICUT – Staff and board members for Day Kimball HomeMakers recently visited Gertrude Emmitt to celebrate her first centenarian birthday. Emmitt, who turned 100 on May 19, 2011, lives at the Seely-Brown Village in Pomfret. Emmitt was presented with gifts and well wishes from the team at Day Kimball HomeMakers, who enjoyed listening to her reflection of history and inventions throughout her 100 years.
Susan Esons executive Director said, “Gertrude is a very kind, energetic, mentally sharp and creative woman with a great sense of humor and buoyant spirit. She does not complain and always seems happy; the kind of person you love to be around. We truly have enjoyed having her as a client for more than ten years.”
Emmitt and her husband, George, began using Day Kimball HomeMakers services back in 1999. The Emmitt’s were featured in a series of advertisements for Day Kimball HomeMakers throughout the years. George passed away in 2007.
Emmitt is still very active. She is an avid painter and a member of the Seely-Brown Art group. She also enjoys going shopping. When asked by David Coderre, Day Kimball HomeMaker board president, for one thing in history that she remembers the most, she replied, “Well I never cared too much for history but I do remember when nylon stockings came out.”
