DKH 2014 Nightingale Nurse Honorees Announced
May 5, 2014
Congratulations to Our 2014 Nightingale Honorees
Every patient we care for deserves the very best we have to give - every day. The nurses featured here are selected as Nightingale Honorees because they are recognized by their colleagues as nurses who exemplify the qualities we strive for in our organization. On behalf of the patients they care for, and the healthcare professionals they work with, we congratulate and thank these ten nurses for the outstanding care and compassion they provide to our patients and the communities we serve.
Carol Artiaco, RN
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
"Carol has been the manager/supervisor of the cardiopulmonary rehab department for 20 years and is instrumental in the coordination and production of the department’s annual fundraising event. She spends many hours “off the clock” preparing for this successful event to raise funds to purchase new equipment for the department. The patients and past cardio rehab 'graduates' are involved and participate in the fundraising event. Carol knows each patient by heart."
Joan Barton, RN
Intensive Care Unit
"Joan is a true patient advocate. She never hesitates to challenge others to improve the outcome of her patient. In one instance, Joan was caring for an oncology patient with severe pain and pain control issues. Joan spent several hours and made numerous phone calls to remedy this with the patient's doctor. The patient went home in good pain control and made it to a point to come to visit Joan two weeks later – still in very good pain control and able to function at a much improved level than when he was admitted to the hospital."
Kim Cady, RN
Behavioral Health
"Kim is the Education Liaison representative for inpatient behavioral health and is often looked to in terms of sharing her knowledge with new staff. Kim also often goes 'above and beyond' in terms of patient care needs. Her commitment to the population we serve is admirable!"
Janet Fernandez, RN
Medical/Surgical
"Janet is a wonderful asset to Day Kimball Hospital. Janet values relationships; this is reflected through her interaction with patients, co-workers and physicians. She is well respected among her peers. Her empathy is immeasurable."
Linda Gervasio, RN
Ambulatory Care Unit
"Linda identifies patient and family best practices and needs, and acts upon them in a caring manner. She proactively develops strategies to assist patients and families with their experience, as well as coaching and supporting ACU staff. She is also a strong leader and constantly seeks to educate herself on new issues in her areas of expertise."
Susan Hibbard, RN, OCN
Hematology/Oncology
"Sue has developed and grown as a hematology/oncology clinician since she came to the department. She continually thinks outside the box, has a positive attitude and continually works to further the quality of care for our cancer patients and their families by implementing quality projects, acting as our education liaison and our quality liaison, and acting as a mentor for new team members."
Kristen Lescault, RN, BSN
Operating Room
"Kristen is extremely knowledgeable about the OR process and patient flow. She steps up to assist when clinical expertise is required, and has stepped into a leadership role with solid clinical experience, continually working to improve the department. As an avid runner, she has also participated in a number of fundraising road races to benefit Day Kimball patient programs."
Sarah Niemiec, RN
Pediatrics - Day Kimball Medical Group
"Sarah is intelligent, patient and a good listener. But above all, she is a person of integrity. Sarah has a wonderful rapport with her little patients, often having to allay their fears with getting vaccines. As the triage nurse she can quite often be found on the phone conversing with a new young mother, giving advice and building their confidence. Sarah has also taken on the task of using the bulletin boards in our exam rooms as a means of promoting patient education, and she is becoming involved in a number of community programs aimed at improving the well-being of children, giving her more tools and skills to further assist our patients."
Lucille Tetreault, RN
Wellness Program - Day Kimball HomeCare
"Lucille celebrated 55 years as an RN in October. Through her years of professional nursing Lucille has extended and impacted the lives of many people. She committed her career to providing direct patient care to people through the life span and has gone “beyond the call” many times for her patients and their families, even spending her personal hours researching for her clients and truly making a difference in their lives. Lucille is core to the culture of northeast Connecticut. She is well known for her selfless giving, care, and compassion throughout the community."
Janine Vose, RN
Emergency Department
"Janine has been working in our Emergency Department for a total of 14 years. She is a consummate professional, clinically astute, kind, thoughtful, and generous to her patients, their families and colleagues alike. Janine is calm under pressure, which is a constant in the Emergency Department arena, and is a born leader, often assuming the charge assignment which is a critical Emergency Department role. In addition to working many hours in our busy Emergency Department and raising a family, Janine remains a lifetime member with KB ambulance, and is also active with East Killingly Fire Department. Janine also regularly provides community lectures regarding the Emergency Department side of medicine, and is an active Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor, thus preparing others to save young lives."
