As administrative coordinator, Briere helps to facilitate the flow of hematology/oncology patients through the DKH system. Her responsibilities include coordinating with various health care professionals; arranging for the efficient and timely testing required for individual patients; insuring that patient data, information and necessary medical information/forms are collected, evaluated, and reviewed upon completion; determining the presence, nature and priority of immediate patient problems; identifying and providing for safety measures based on the needs, age and developmental level of patients; determining barriers to communication; supporting the DKH Cancer Committee; and keeping the office running efficiently while serving as an advocate for patients and their families.

DKH Director of Hematology/Oncology Patricia Holland Caprera, RN, BSN, MBA, OCN, spoke highly of Briere’s commitment and compassion: “Lisa always goes the extra mile, including taking on additional responsibilities such as serving as Cancer Care Conference coordinator and Cancer Registry administrative assistant. She has been my right-hand person in organizing our Cancer Care Committee. In addition, Lisa goes out of her way for patients and families, often spearheading special projects to recognize their personal cancer journeys.”

Briere began working at DKH in 2001 on the Medical/Surgical floor and cross-trained in the Intensive Care Unit. She also spent one year as a mental health worker in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. Briere entered her current position in 2008. She says that her favorite things about working at DKH are the patients and their “…positive and inspirational attitudes.”

“I have met some incredible people who are going through probably the most difficult thing ever,” said Briere. “Patients choose to come here because of the excellent care we give.”

Concerning being chosen the DKH employee of the month, Briere said: “I feel both honored and blessed. There are so many hard working and caring professionals who are employed here and to be recognized and chosen is both very overwhelming and very special.”

Briere, who was born at Day Kimball Hospital, which is part of the DKH integrated system, resides in East Killingly. She has one daughter. Briere is a member of the DKH “Well Wishers” and is a DKH team captain for the “Woodstock Relay for Life.”
