Nicole Cornell Named October Employee of the Month
October 30, 2013
PUTNAM, CONN. – Nicole Cornell, M.S.W., has been named employee of the month for October at Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH). She is the lead social worker in the Behavioral Health Unit at Day Kimball Hospital, which is part of the DKH integrated healthcare system.
Cornell joined DKH in 2012. In her position as lead social worker, she is responsible for collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary team to provide supervision, consultation and direction to the therapy and social work staff on the Behavioral Health Unit. Cornell’s duties include facilitating regular meetings with local community organizations, monitoring the quality of group and family interventions, and collaborating to initiate treatment and discharge plans. In this position, Cornell serves as a crucial resource to the therapy and social work staff.
"In the short time that Nicole has been with Day Kimball, she has managed to make important strides," said Kathleen Flynn, LCSW, supervisor of Day Kimball’s Social and Therapeutic Services, Behavioral Health. "She has formalized weekly meetings with community providers, strengthening these relationships, thereby assisting our patients with accessing the best and most appropriate resources. She has raised the bar for the social work role on the psychiatric unit with her leadership, commitment to excellent patient care and her strong social work values."
Cornell, who most enjoys "having the opportunity to be able to contribute to improving each patient’s overall wellness," said that she feels proud to have been named employee of the month among a group of dedicated and skilled professionals.
Cornell has worked in social services for seven years following graduation from Southern Connecticut State University with a BSW. She earned a MSW from the University of Connecticut. Currently residing in Manchester, CT, Cornell actively participates as a member of the Connecticut Hospital Association’s Social Work Leaders group.
