Maria Gauvin, UR/PCT in the Emergency Department is Day Kimball Hospital’s April Employee of the Month.

PUTNAM, CONNECTICUT – Day Kimball Healthcare announces that Maria Gauvin, UR/PCT, lead patient care technician from the Emergency Department, is Day Kimball Hospital’s April Employee of the Month.

“Maria is one of the most energetic and hard workers that I know,” said Ralph Miro, nurse director of the Emergency Department and EMS Coordinator. “She is self-motivated, possesses superior clinical skills and is a patient and family advocate. In addition, Maria is a team player who is loved and respected by the entire staff.”

Gauvin has worked at Day Kimball Hospital for fifteen years, all of which in the Emergency Department. In her role as lead patient care technician, Gauvin is responsible for coordinating department UR/PCT education, managing a variety of projects, maintaining supplies and equipment and direct patient care, including assisting with procedures such as laboratory work and EKGs. She also covers for the unit receptionist when needed. Recently, Gauvin played a major role in designing new Emergency Department supply areas.

“People often ask me how I can work in an Emergency Department,” said Gauvin. “Helping patients and their loved ones get through an often stressful and many times most difficult situation, is very rewarding. And, when I receive a thank you letter from parents or any patient, telling me how much they appreciated my work, that reminder reinforces why I do what I do.”

Gauvin is a graduate of Quinebaug Valley Community College where she became a Nationally Certified Phlebotomist, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Originally from Plainfield, Gauvin currently resides in Norwich. Gauvin loves to spend her free time with her family, especially with her two year old granddaughter Julia. She is an avid runner, bicyclist and swimmer, and enjoys participating in Triathlons. In fact, she is assisting to coordinate the Day Kimball Healthcare “Give it a TRI” triathlon to be held in Plainfield on August 28, 2011.
