Pomfret Resident Jonathan Scott is Day Kimball’s December Employee of the Month

Jonathan Scott, Chaplain, is Day Kimball’s December Employee of the Month.

PUTNAM, CONNECTICUT – Day Kimball Healthcare announces that Jonathan Scott, chaplain, is Day Kimball’s December Employee of the Month.

Carol Emmerthal, director of Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut, said, “Jonathan exhibits all the qualities that the Employee of the Month should have. He extends beyond the boundaries of his job and has a wonderful, positive way of looking at things. He is caring, humble, kind, respectful, and accepting of others for who they are. He is a quiet presence that can bring calm to even chaotic situations.”

Scott has been employed by Day Kimball’s Pastoral Care department for more than 11 years. In his role as chaplain, he provides spiritual support for patients and their families, as well as the hospital and hospice staff that work with them. Most of his time is spent visiting patients, listening to hopes and concerns, and offering prayers or hymns. In addition, Scott also helps people fill out Advance Directive forms, clarifying with them what their healthcare wishes would be in various future scenarios.

“I was really surprised to be named the Employee of the Month,” said Scott. He added, “It is a tremendous honor. It is also very humbling, as I think of all the hard work that the staff, which is very compassionate and skillful, puts in.” Reflecting on what his position means to him, Scott commented, “I seek to be aware of God’s presence in the patient, in the room, in the situation. I love the people I get to visit. Most days, at the end of the day, I can look back over what I have done and feel as if I have made a positive contribution in some one’s life.”

Prior to his career at Day Kimball, Scott completed several years of chaplaincy training at hospitals in Boston, Worcester and Providence. He was ordained an American Baptist minister in 1987 and worked as a church pastor before switching to hospital ministry.

Scott received his Bachelor of Arts at Wesleyan University and his Master of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School. Originally from Easy Lyme, Connecticut, Scott currently resides in Pomfret with his wife Sally and their children Michael, Karen and David.
