PUTNAM, CONN. – Day Kimball Healthcare announces that Kimberly Lane, advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), from Behavioral Health Services is Day Kimball’s March Employee of the Month.

“Kim is a very caring clinician that has a great sense of community,” said John O’Keefe, director of Critical Care and Behavioral Health Services. “She is extremely well respected for her work and truly goes the extra mile.”

Lane has been employed by Day Kimball Healthcare since 1983. She began her career as a nurse on the medical/surgical/psychiatric unit and went on to become a nurse psychotherapist in the Mental Health Clinic. While in this role, Lane initiated acquiring prescriptive privileges and mid-level medical staff membership for APRN’s in psychiatric nursing at Day Kimball, which then granted them the ability to write prescriptions for patients.

Lane’s daily responsibilities include seeing individuals for initial psychiatric evaluations and following up on patients regarding their psychiatric medications that she prescribes and supervises. She works closely with the department’s clinical and office staff including the Medical Director of Behavioral Health Services, Dr. Manish Sapra and has regular contact with individuals’ primary care physicians and other mental health providers in the community. She is also responsible for managing the pharmaceutical samples in the clinic, administering medication injections, takes part in meetings and attends conferences, seminars and professional education programs to maintain her expertise using up to date information and techniques.

While maintaining her position at Day Kimball, Lane has enhanced her expertise by taking on other opportunities within in her field. She has served as a clinical nursing instructor and worked in several types of practices and programs. Lane said, “I have always come home to the clinic work here at Day Kimball Healthcare because it fulfills my sense of job satisfaction the best. Forming, developing and nurturing respectful relationships with colleagues and clients are what constitute good mental healthcare and job satisfaction for me.”

Lane achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Eastern Connecticut State University, a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Salve Regina University, a Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Connecticut and a post graduate certificate in Primary Care Nursing as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA) and is board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist by the ANCC.

In the community, Lane is known as someone who gets involved to help others. She is a co-founder along with Dr. Sherry Kroll of the Day Kimball Healthcare Multisport Team. The team’s mission is to empower individuals toward healthy lifestyles by competing in triathlons. Last year the team raised over $12,000 for a number of Day Kimball programs including the “Period of Purple Crying,” an educational program that helps parents understand that crying babies are healthy and normal, and give encouragement that the crying period will indeed end.

Currently living in Pomfret, Lane’s hobbies include gardening, traveling, and competing in triathlons. She and her husband have two children.
