Day Kimball Healthcare to Host Annual Cancer Survivorship Day, September 12

September 3, 2015

Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH) will host its annual Cancer Survivorship Day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, at Day Kimball Hospital, Fields Conference Rooms, 320 Pomfret Street.

This free event, which is open to those who have or had cancer and their families, will kick off with an “eat dessert first” ice cream social, followed by a butterfly release, a visit by Indy the pet therapy dog, as well as a speaking program featuring inspirational stories from two local cancer survivors. The day will culminate with a blessing by Rev. Jonathan Scott and a buffet luncheon.

Throughout the day, families will have the opportunity to socialize, speak with DKH cancer staff and visit informational booths about cancer screenings, community support groups and nutrition. This year’s event, themed “colors of courage,” will also include face painting, a photo booth, games and raffles.

“This annual event has become very popular, not only for cancer survivors and their families, but for DKH staff and the community as well,” says Patricia Holland-Caprera, director of the DKH Oncology/Hematology Department. “It’s an educational, yet fun event that allows us to interact with patients outside of the treatment setting, acknowledge their courage, and remind them that they are not alone; it’s a chance to be joyful and celebrate life!”

This year’s guest speakers are Michael Angell from Dayville, and Barbra Kirk from Moosup.

RSVP is requested, but drop-ins are welcome; call the Day Kimball Hospital Oncology/Hematology Department at (860) 963-6425 to RSVP and see the event web page for more information.
