Colon Health Tips

If You're Over Age 50 or Have a Family History of Colon Cancer, Get Tested Regularly

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of death from cancer – but it doesn’t have to be. Colon cancer is highly treatable if it’s caught early. Colorectal cancer affects all racial and ethnic groups and is most often found in people ages 50 and older. However, people with a family history of colon cancer may be at increased risk and need to be screened earlier. In addition, colon cancer is beginning to be found more frequently than in the past in younger people even without a family history; and we’ve seen a rise in this type of cancer at our Cancer Center at Day Kimball Hospital.

To increase awareness about the importance of colorectal cancer screening, DKH is proudly participating in Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. We can use this month to raise awareness about colorectal cancer and take action toward prevention.

The best way to prevent colorectal cancer is to get screened regularly starting at age 50. There are often no signs or symptoms of colorectal cancer – that’s why it’s so important to get screened.
